This skill and knowledge challenge is designed for firefighters who have completed training in Firefighter Level I (FF1), Firefighter Level II (FF2), Hazardous Materials Awareness, and Hazardous Materials Operations, and who wish to challenge the skills and examinations required to obtain the associated International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC) seals.
Provide a copy of their training records indicating successful completion of the associated training, (as per NFPA 1001 4.1, 2019 Edition, For qualification as FF level 1, the candidate shall meet the general knowledge requirements in 4.1.1, the general skill requirements in 4.1.2, the JPR’s defined in sections 4.2 through 4.5 of this standard, knowledge of the Incident Management System, and the requirements defined in Chapter 5 as well as mission specific competencies in section 6.2, Personal Protective Equipment, and section 6.6, Product Control, of NFPA 1072, 2017 Edition. An additional requirement is a current designation as a First Aid Provider from a recognized agency.
b) For qualification as FF2, the applicant shall meet the requirements in 5.1.1, the general skill requirements in 5.1.2, the JPR’s defined in sections 5.2 through 5.5 of NFPA 1001, 2019 Edition, the requirements defined in Chapter 4, and the knowledge of the Incident Management System sections of ICS 200 as described.
c) As per NFPA 1072 2017 Edition, for qualification as an Awareness level responder, applicants shall meet the JPR’s defined in sections 4.2 through 4.4 of NFPA 1072, 2017 Edition.
d) For qualification as an Operations level responder, applicants shall meet the JPR’s defined in sections 4.2 through 4.4 and the JPR’s defined in sections 5.2 through 5.6 of NFPA 1072, 2017 Edition.) and;
e) Provide a sponsor letter from the current Fire Chief.
f) Provide proof of formal training in the discipline applicant is seeking accreditation for from a recognized institution (to be determined on a case-by-case basis by the Fire Management Team)
g) Be 18 years of age or older at the time of application.
h) Applicants must provide current quantitative fit test documentation that follows procedures set forth in 29 CFR 1910.134 and ANSI Z88.2 for the facepiece they will be using during testing.
i) Applicants must provide current documentation that all PPE (helmet, gloves, flash hood, bunker coat, bunker pants, boots, SCBA, air cylinder, and facepiece) have been inspected and the date of manufacture is within applicable standards. 1, Bunker pants and coat must be inspected and tested with passing results within 6 months. 2. Air cylinder must have current visual and hydrostatic inspection. Composite air cylinders must be no older than 15 years from date of manufacture. 3. SCBA must have current flow test. SCBA must still be within current lifespan for live fire service use. 4. All other PPE must be within 10 years of date of manufacture and in good condition.
j) Complete the Professional Firefighter Medical form. Prior to visiting your physician, please review this form and if there is any medical condition that you have, or suspect you may have, that is identified on the form as requiring a more detailed medical evaluation, please print the required form and take it with you on your visit to your doctor. If the doctor discovers a medical condition requiring further details, you will need to have them complete the appropriate detailed .
