Women’s basketball player Alexa Rancourt and men’s basketball player Owen Parsons have been named the Holland Hurricanes Athletes of the Week for the week ending December 1, 2024.
Rancourt, a fifth-year guard from New Dominion, P.E.I., helped her squad end the first half of the regular season tied for second in the standings and on a two-game winning streak with a 79-55 win against the STU Tommies on Sunday, Dec. 1 in Fredericton, N.B. Rancourt had her best performance of the season, recording 18 points, three rebounds, two assists, and one steal. She will enter the second half of the regular season fourth in the conference in points (120) and rebounds per game (8.1), third in points per game (15.0), and second in field goal percentage (51.0).
The women’s basketball Hurricanes are 6-2 and will look to return to action strong by extending their winning streak to three with a road trip doubleheader on Saturday, Jan. 11 and Sunday, Jan. 12 against the UNBSJ Seawolves in Saint John, N.B.

Parsons, a second-year forward from Hebbsville, N.S., was an integral piece to his team ending a two-game losing skid with a nail-biting 85-83 win against the STU Tommies on Sunday, Dec. 1 in Fredericton, N.B. In the final game of the first half of the regular season, Parsons secured the double-double by recording 14 points, 11 rebounds, two steals, and one assist. He will enter the second half fifth in the conference in rebounds per game (7.6) and second in field goal percentage (63.3).
The men’s basketball Hurricanes are 4-4 and fourth in the standings and will look to have a stronger second half starting on Saturday, Jan. 11 and Sunday, Jan. 12 when they head on the road to Saint John, N.B. to take on the UNBSJ Seawolves.
