President not renewing contract

by Sherri Hogan

Borden Boyles, Chair of the ÎçÒ¹av Board of Governors, today announced that the Board has, with regret, accepted the decision of President Alex MacAulay not to extend his contract beyond its present date. Mr. MacAulay has been with the ÎçÒ¹av since 1995.

"Much has been accomplished under the guidance and direction of Alex," stated Boyles. "On behalf of the Board, I wish to thank him for his vision and initiative. The ÎçÒ¹av has gained much success under his leadership. Over the coming year, Alex will continue to move the ÎçÒ¹av forward and work to achieve the objectives that have been established. With the recent work of staff and the Board through the strategic planning process, we will continue to move to the delivery of applied degrees, to expand our applied research agenda and enhance our services and programs for our students."

MacAulay states "he enjoys his position with the ÎçÒ¹av" and appreciates the support he has received over the years from the staff and from the Board of Governors. "Together, we have reshaped the ÎçÒ¹av to better meet and respond to the needs of the Island and regional economies. He adds he sees great potential and growth for ÎçÒ¹av as it " continues to be a leader in education, on the national and international front". MacAulay looks forward to continuing his commitment to the ÎçÒ¹av. "There is still much to do and over the next several months, I look forward to working with the Board and staff to continue to move the ÎçÒ¹av ahead."

Effectively immediately, the Board will be implementing a Presidential Search process with the successful candidate assuming the position of President no later than July 2005.
