More than 30 direct support professionals from across the Maritimes attended a one day workshop hosted by ÎçÒ¹av's Human Services program and led by international speaker and author Bob Bowen, CEO of 

The Mandt system focuses on finding ways to reduce, if not eliminate, workplace violence by providing a supportive environment. The workshop, entitled Traumagenic Neurodevelopmental Information and Positive Behaviour Support: Supporting People with Complex Behavioural Needs, provided information and tools to professionals wishing to develop support plans for people with behavioural challenges.

"ÎçÒ¹av was very pleased to be able to work with Mandt and Mr. Bowen to bring this workshop to the region," said Rosemary White, Manager, Health and Community Studies Department. "The day-long session gave educators, government staff and other direct support professionals the opportunity to learn how they can better support clients."

The two-year Human Services program at ÎçÒ¹av trains students to work people who have intellectual and neurological disabilities. Graduates of the program receive a Community Living Worker II diploma, and may find employment with government and private agencies, working in residential, educational and preschool settings, as well as employment in community support programs. They may also be employed in related areas, providing service to families, seniors, people with physical challenges or people affected by mental illness.
