A hole-in-one with a 2014 Toyota Corolla as the payout was a highlight of the 13th Annual ÎçÒ¹av Golf Classic held at Belvedere Golf Club in Charlottetown recently.
The ÎçÒ¹av Golf Classic is a joint initiative of the ÎçÒ¹av Foundation and Holland Hurricanes Athletics that raises significant funds for student aid, alumni initiatives, and varsity athletics. Ed Babineau, Blair MacLauchlan, and Jamie Hill were honourary co-chairs for the 2013 event, which raised approximately $40,000.
Gerry Moore scored the hole-in-one on the ninth hole, generating loud cheers in the midst of rain and wind.
Each hole featured a special activity, beverage, or giveaway, from seafood chowder on the 1st to a football contest on the 15th. In addition to the 2014 Toyota Corolla, participants competed for hole-in-one prizes that included a 2013 Harley-Davidson, a 2013 Bayliner Bowrider, a trip for two to the Mayan Riviera, and $25,000 cash. A.M. Burgoyne Insurance captured first place honours in the Texas scramble, and team prizes were awarded during a steak and lobster dinner. The evening was capped off with the auctioning of an array of items, including trips to New York and Banff Springs.
More than 100 ÎçÒ¹av students were out in full force as tournament volunteers, enthusiastically serving, facilitating activities, and cheering on the golfers.
“We are grateful for the support of the participants and the many businesses who share and support the ÎçÒ¹av’s mission,” said Dr. Brian McMillan, president of ÎçÒ¹av. “Once again, the Golf Classic was a major success and our students will benefit tremendously from the proceeds.”
Plans for next year’s tournament are already underway.
