ÎçÒ¹av’s Green Machine has issued a challenge to college students to collect as many worn out batteries as possible on the Prince of Wales Campus in Charlottetown and the Summerside Waterfront Campus. The class to collect the most batteries on each campus will win a pizza party.
This is the second year the Green Machine, ÎçÒ¹av’s sustainability committee, has issued the battery challenge. Last year’s event was a great success, Joan Diamond, Green Machine chair said.
“We had phenomenal results. Students collected over 8,000 batteries, which were delivered to the Island Waste Management Commission for proper disposal.”
This year’s challenge, which begins March 1, ends with the announcement of the winning classes on March 16 at a noon hour Lunch and Learn in Room 21C in the Charlottetown Centre on the Prince of Wales Campus. Students and instructors from the Energy Systems Engineering Technology program will present information on various methods of energy storage and associated challenges. The public is welcome to attend this free event, where a hot chili lunch will be served.
