ÎçÒ¹av raising cannabis awareness with campaign

ÎçÒ¹av’s student services department and Hurricanes Athletics are teaming up with the ÎçÒ¹av Student Union to raise awareness among students about responsible cannabis use.

The initiative kicks off today at ÎçÒ¹av locations across the Island. The PEI Cannabis Management Corporation (PEICMC) and the provincial government have provided support and resources, working collaboratively with ÎçÒ¹av to launch the campaign.

ÎçÒ¹av Registrar Maureen Duffy said students, staff and faculty will be participating in activities aimed at providing students with information about cannabis use.

“Our goal is increase awareness and understanding of the risks inherent in the use of cannabis while ensuring our students are able to make informed, responsible and safe decisions. This past year we established internal policies and procedures for the college, and, with this campaign, we are focusing on our students,” she said.

Finance Minister Heath MacDonald, minister responsible for the PEICMC, says it is important that Islanders have all the information they need to make a fully informed decision when it comes to cannabis use.

“Through the province’s public awareness campaign, Just The Facts, we are looking at the laws, health risks, responsible use, how to talk to youth, dangers of driving impaired, and more. We are very pleased ÎçÒ¹av has created this initiative to further educate about the potential consequences for health and safety of Islanders who choose to use cannabis.”

The PEICMC, under the brand name PEI Cannabis, oversees the operation of four cannabis retail locations and an e-commerce platform. For more information regarding Just The Facts, visit .
