This course is intended to prepare the student for the SCS1 Transport Canada Exam. Vessel stability is an extremely important topic, particularly for fishing vessels and this course should not be taken lightly. This course covers two main areas – Ship Stability which will include mathematical calculations using a vessel stability booklet, and Ship Construction which covers a basic knowledge of the construction of a fishing vessel.
The SCS1 Exam is a three-hour exam and consists of 30 multiple choice questions worth 2 marks each, 8 multiple choice questions worth 5 marks each requiring the use of a stability booklet and some basic calculations.
During your exam, you will be provided with a laptop that contains all of the open book publications in PDFs. It is important that you familiarize yourself with these publications so that you know where to find information during the exam. There may be questions that pertain to information that is not found within the publications. We recommend that you spend a minimum of four weeks preparing for this exam.
