Job Description

Interpretation Coordinators work with our Visitor Experience teams at Green Gables Heritage Place on the Island’s north shore, and at Skmaqn—Port-la-Joye—Fort Amherst National Historic Site in beautiful Rocky Point on the south shore. Parks Canada values the role of interpretation. Our interpreters plan, adapt, develop and deliver engaging programs, presentations and activities for visitors. Our interpreters often lead a team comprised of students and heritage presenters by providing training, guidance and supervision throughout the operational season. Finally, they participate in the planning and development of information panels, exhibits and written content.

Qualifications

EDUCATION

  • A minimum 2 years of post-secondary education or acceptable combination of education, training, experience or traditional knowledge relevant to position.

EXPERIENCE

  • Experience in planning and providing services to the public.
  • Experience supervising a team of employees (minimum 3 consecutive months within past 3 years)
  • The following will be applied / assessed at a later date (essential for the job) Bilingual - Imperative BBB/BBB and CBC/CBC Parks Canada, as required by the Official Languages Act, provides services to visitors in English and French. Qualified candidates must obtain successful second language evaluation results in reading, writing and speaking in their second language (English or French) prior to hiring.

ADDITIONAL EXPERIENCE

  • Experience working for Parks Canada.
  • Experience in the delivery of interpretation programs.
  • Experience in gardening or horticulture.

ADDITIONAL KNOWLEDGE

  • Knowledge of basic gardening and/or horticultural methods. ADDITIONAL

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Willingness to wear a Parks Canada uniform when required
  • Willingness to work irregular hours, overtime, weekends and/or statutory holidays, when required
